My Great Grandfather’s Flower Garden (2022) is a conceptual quilt exploring the parallel cycles of abuse and artisanship that are passed down through generations of families. The custom quilt block design references the simultaneous feelings of entrapment and belonging from being born into deep rooted familial patterns and traditions. The quilt top is pieced with stained and damaged fabrics, and these permanent scars from the textile’s lineage are outlined in red, hand-quilted stitches.
Shown at Heimbold Gallery in Bronxville, NY.
